Последние исследования показывают, что выздоравливающие алкоголики страдают от не устанавливаемых клиническим наблюдением органических умственных расстройств, затрудняющих способность думать, управлять своими чувствами и эмоциями, помнить факты, нормально спать, сохранять психомоторную координацию и справляться со стрессом. Синдром является хроническим и ярко выражен на стадии раннего выздоровления в течение 30-180 дней. После этого периода симптомы периодически возвращаются, особенно в моменты, когда пациент испытывает чрезмерный стресс, усталость или плохо питается. Этот синдром называют постабстинентным синдромом, длительной абстиненцией, “сухим пьянством”, “подготовкой к употреблению”. Следующие работы рассматривают этот синдром, дают его описание и приводят гипотетические причины возникновения.
