Ожидания владельцев порой не оправдываются: не всем кошкам нравится, чтобы их брали на руки или ограничивали их свободу. Кошки, которые не прошли социализацию в раннем возрасте, возможно, никогда не станут ласкаться к человеку или хотя бы терпеть его ласку. На их характере сказывается и ранний опыт общения с людьми, и поведение родителей. Если родители были недружелюбны (шипели, избегали людей, прятались) или у котенка не было контакта с людьми в течение первых 7 недель его жизни, то, скорее всего, у него разовьется “недостаточная привязанность”.

Диагноз основывается на данных анамнеза и наблюдениях за поведением животного.

Владельцам, вероятно, придется смириться с тем, что кошка находится поблизости, но не вступает с ними в прямой контакт. Нужно давать ей лакомство за то, что она терпит краткий физический контакт. Хозяину питомца с диагнозом недостаточной привязанности придется не прикасаться к кошке первым, а лишь отвечать на ее инициативу - такой ответ послужит ей вознаграждением за желательное поведение. Со временем вознаграждение и терпение хозяина сделают свое дело: кошка научится спокойнее относиться к более частым и длительным контактам.

Поведение некоторых животных можно улучшить настолько, чтобы удовлетворить клиента. В сущности, это зависит от его ожиданий и характера питомца. Изменения потребуют терпения и времени. Следует поощрять владельцев вести ежемесячные записи своих наблюдений.

Нечистоплотность иногда называют неуместным совершением естественных отправлений, но это неверно. Для собаки совершение естественных отправлений никогда не бывает “неуместным”; оно неудобно лишь для владельца.
