Такие яркие портреты, вместе с историческими произведениями, например романами Джин Плейди и более недавними романами Филиппы Грегори, питают вечное стремление по-новому интерпретировать «жизнь и любовь» королевы-девственницы. [1430] Вопросы, которые подняли «тайные истории» в конце XVII в., продолжают занимать широкую публику и сегодня. При жизни Елизаветы она сама и ее приближенные дамы упорно защищали ее репутацию и корону. После смерти именно сомнения и поиски правды о королеве-девственнице, а также предположения, что она не была целомудренна, продолжают привлекать читателей и обеспечивают ей долгую популярность.
