 The sisters went home and left her there. When they were gone, and she was alone at the water crying and sobbing, all at once she came to herself and called out, “Whoever took my clothes, I’ll forgive him if he brings them to me now, and I’ll save him from the danger he is in if I can.”

When he heard this (когда он услышал это; to hear /heard/), the king’s son put the clothes out to her (королевский сын выложил ее одежду: «положил одежду наружу к ней»), and stayed behind himself (а сам остался за скалой: «позади») till she told him to come forth (пока она не велела ему выйти; to tell /told/ – рассказывать; велеть, приказывать; forth – вперед, дальше; наружу).

 When he heard this, the king’s son put the clothes out to her, and stayed behind himself till she told him to come forth.

Then she said (затем она сказала), “I know well where you are going (я хорошо знаю, куда ты идешь). My father, the Giant of Loch L'ein, has a soft bed waiting for you (у моего отца, великана озера Лох Лейн, готова для тебя мягкая постель: «мой отец… имеет мягкую постель, ожидающую тебя»), – a deep tank of water (глубокий чан с водой; tank – бак, резервуар, водоем) for your death (для твоей смерти). But don’t be uneasy (но не беспокойся: «не будь беспокойным»; easy – удобный, легкий; uneasy – неудобный; беспокойный, тревожный); go into the water (заходи в /ту/ воду), and wait till I come to save you (и жди, пока я /не/ приду спасти тебя).

 Then she said, “I know well where you are going. My father, the Giant of Loch L'ein, has a soft bed waiting for you, – a deep tank of water for your death. But don’t be uneasy; go into the water, and wait till I come to save you.

Be at that castle above (будь в замке, который /там/ наверху) before my father (раньше моего отца). When he comes home tonight (когда он вернется домой сегодня вечером) and asks for you (и пригласит тебя; to ask – спрашивать; /for/ спрашивать, хотеть видеть кого-л.), take no meat from him (не принимай от него никакой пищи; meat – мясо; еда, пища), but go to rest in the tank (а иди отдыхать в чан /с водой/; tank – бак, резервуар, водоем) when he tells you (когда он тебе велит; to tell – рассказывать; велеть, приказывать).”

 Be at that castle above before my father. When he comes home tonight and asks for you, take no meat from him, but go to rest in the tank when he tells you.”

The giant’s daughter left the king’s son (дочь великана оставила королевского сына; to leave /left/ – покидать, уезжать; оставлять), who went his way to the castle alone (который один пошел своим путем к замку; to go /went, gone/) at a fair and easy gait (размеренной и неторопливой походкой; fair – справедливый, порядочный; гладкий, ровный; easy – легкий, нетрудный; неторопливый), for he had time enough on his hands and to spare (потому что у него было более чем достаточно времени в его распоряжении: «он имел времени достаточно на его руках и в излишке»; hand – рука, кисть руки; владение, распоряжение; to spare – беречь, сберегать; иметь в излишке; enough and to spare – более чем достаточно, хватит за глаза).

 The giant’s daughter left the king’s son, who went his way to the castle alone at a fair and easy gait, for he had time enough on his hands and to spare.

When the Giant of Loch L'ein came home that night (когда великан озера Лох Лейн пришел домой в тот вечер; to come /came, come/; night – ночь; вечер), the first question he asked was (первый вопрос, который он задал: «спросил», был), “Is the son of the king of Erin here (здесь ли сын короля Ирландии)?”

“I am (да: «я есть /здесь/»),” said the king’s son.

“Come (проходи),” said the giant, “and get your evening’s meat (и возьми еду себе на ужин: «твою вечернюю еду»; meat – мясо; еда, пища).”

“I’ll take no meat now (я не буду брать еду сейчас: «я не возьму никакой пищи теперь»), for I don’t need it (потому что не нуждаюсь в ней = я не голоден),” said the king’s son.

 When the Giant of Loch L'ein came home that night, the first question he asked was, “Is the son of the king of Erin here?”

“I am,” said the king’s son.

“Come,” said the giant, “and get your evening’s meat.”

“I’ll take no meat now, for I don’t need it,” said the king’s son.

“Well, come with me then (что ж, тогда иди со мной), and I’ll show you your bed (и я покажу тебе твою постель).” He went (он пошел; to go /went, gone/), and the giant put the king’s son into the deep tank of water to drown (и великан уложил королевского сына в глубокий чан с водой, чтобы /тот/ утонул /в нем/; to put /put/ – класть, положить), and being tired himself (и так как он сам устал: «будучи уставшим сам») from hunting all day (от того, что охотился целый день) over the mountains and hills of Erin (по горам и холмам Ирландии), he went to sleep (он = великан и сам пошел спать; to go /went, gone/).

 “Well, come with me then, and I’ll show you your bed.” He went, and the giant put the king’s son into the deep tank of water to drown, and being tired himself from hunting all day over the mountains and hills of Erin, he went to sleep.

That minute his youngest daughter came (в ту /же/ минуту пришла его младшая дочь: «его самая младшая дочь пришла»; young – молодой, юный; младший, молодой /о членах одной семьи/; to come /came, come/), took the king’s son out of the tank (вытащила королевского сына из чана; to take /took, taken/ – брать; to take out – вынимать), placed plenty to eat and to drink before him (поставила множество еды и питья перед ним: «расположила множество /того, что можно было/ съесть и выпить перед ним»), and gave him a good bed to sleep on that night (и постелила ему хорошую постель, чтобы он поспал в ней в ту ночь: «дала ему хорошую постель, чтобы спать на /ней/ той ночью»; to give /gave, given/).

 That minute his youngest daughter came, took the king’s son out of the tank, placed plenty to eat and to drink before him, and gave him a good bed to sleep on that night.

The giant’s daughter watched (дочь великана бодрствовала /всю ночь/; to watch – наблюдать, следить; дежурить /особ. ночью/) till she heard her father stirring before daybreak (пока /не/ услышала, как ее отец зашевелился /в постели/ перед /самым/ рассветом); then she roused the king’s son (тогда она разбудила королевского сына; to rouse – будить, поднимать), and put him in the tank again (и снова положила его в чан).

Soon the giant came to the tank and called out (вскоре великан пришел к чану и крикнул),

“Are you here, son of the king of Erin (ты здесь, сын короля Ирландии)?”

“I am (я /здесь/),” said the king’s son.

 The giant’s daughter watched till she heard her father stirring before daybreak; then she roused the king’s son, and put him in the tank again.

Soon the giant came to the tank and called out,

“Are you here, son of the king of Erin?”

“I am,” said the king’s son.

“Well, come out now (что ж, теперь выходи). There is a great work for you today (имеется немалая работа для тебя /на/ сегодня; great – большой, огромный; большой, крупный, значительный). I have a stable outside (у меня есть конюшня снаружи = вне замка), in which I keep five hundred horses (в которой я содержу пятьсот лошадей; to keep /kept/ – держать, иметь; содержать, обеспечивать), and that stable has not been cleaned (и эта конюшня не была чищена = ее не чистили) these seven hundred years (эти /последние/ семьсот лет).
