He had dreamy violet eyes (у него были мечтательные глаза фиалкового цвета; dream — сон, мечта), and his hair was like fine gold (и волосы его были, словно из чистого золота; fine — ясный, прекрасный, чистый). When he saw her (когда он увидел ее; to see (saw, seen)) he sank upon one knee (он опустился на одно колено; to sink (sank, sunk) — тонуть, опускаться), and kissed her hand (и поцеловал ее руку).

`Your picture was beautiful (ваш портрет был прекрасен; picture — картина, рисунок),' he murmured (прошептал он), `but you are more beautiful (но вы более прекрасны) than your picture (чем ваш портрет);' and the little Princess blushed (и маленькая Принцесса покраснела от смущения; to blush — краснеть, смущаться).

`She was like a white rose before (до этого она была похожа на белую розу),' said a young Page to his neighbour (сказал юный Паж своему соседу), `but she is like a red rose now (а сейчас она похожа на красную розу);' and the whole Court was delighted (и весь /королевский/ Двор был восхищен; to delight — доставлять наслаждение, восхищать).

As he received no salary at all (так как тот вообще не получал никакого жалованья; to receive — получать) this was not of much use to him (это не принесло ему особой пользы; use — употребление, польза, толк), but it was considered a great honour (но это посчитали великой честью; to consider — рассматривать, полагать, считать), and was duly published in the Court Gazette (и об этом своевременно напечатали в Придворной Газете; duly — должным образом, в должное время; to publish — публиковать, оглашать).
