Когда предлог в течение употребляется для обозначения времени на вопрос в какой срок? и вместо него можно употребить не позже чем через, он соответствует предлогу within:
Я вам дам ответ в течение недели (не позже чем через неделю).
Он обещал прислать нам каталоги в течение пяти дней (не позже, чем через пять дней).
1 shall give you an answer within a week.
He promised to send us the catalogues within five days.

§ 125. Предлог without употребляется co значением без (противоположен по значению предлогу with):
1 cannot do it without your Я не могу это сделать без вашей help. помощи.
Не went out without his hat. Он вышел без шляпы.
Without часто употребляется в сочетании с герундием для выражения отрицания и переводится на русский язык частицей не (стр. 370):
Не can speak English without Он говорит по-английски, не
making mistakes. делая ошибок (без ошибок).
I went in without waking him. Я вошел, не разбудив его.
§ 126. Сочетания с предлогом without:
without doubt несомненно
without fail непременно, обязательно
without notice без предупреждения (формального)
