When the procession came opposite to Alice, they all stopped and looked at her, and the Queen said severely 'Who is this?' She said it to the Knave of Hearts, who only bowed and smiled in reply.

'Idiot!' said the Queen, tossing her head impatiently; and, turning to Alice, she went on, 'What's your name, child?'

'My name is Alice, so please your Majesty (меня зовут Алиса, с позволения Вашего Величества; to please — желать, хотеть; ср.: please your honour — с вашего позволения, если вам будет угодно),' said Alice very politely; but she added, to herself (сказала Алиса очень вежливо, а про себя добавила), 'Why, they're only a pack of cards, after all (ну, /все/ они — это всего лишь колода карт; pack — связка, узел; карт. колода; after all — в конце концов, все же). The King laid his hand upon her arm (Король положил руку ей на плечо), and timidly said 'Consider, my dear: she is only a child!' (и робко сказал: "Смотри, моя дорогая, она всего лишь ребенок!"; to consider — рассматривать, обсуждать; принимать во внимание, учитывать).

The Queen turned angrily away from him (Королева сердито отвернулась от него), and said to the Knave 'Turn them over!' (и сказала Валету: "Перевернуть их!").

The Knave did so, very carefully, with one foot (Валет перевернул их: «сделал это», очень осторожно, одной ногой).

'Get up (встать)!' said the Queen, in a shrill, loud voice (произнесла Королева пронзительным, громким голосом), and the three gardeners instantly jumped up (и трое садовников тут же подпрыгнули), and began bowing to the King, the Queen, the royal children, and everybody else (и начали кланяться Королю, Королеве, королевским детям и всем остальным).

'I see (понятно; to see — видеть; понимать, сознавать)!' said the Queen, who had meanwhile been examining the roses (сказала Королева, которая тем временем осматривала розы). 'Off with their heads (отрубить им головы)!' and the procession moved on (и шествие двинулось дальше), three of the soldiers remaining behind to execute the unfortunate gardeners (а трое солдат остались /позади/, чтобы казнить несчастных садовников), who ran to Alice for protection (которые побежали к Алисе за защитой).
